I left Lescar, after visiting Lescar's Cathedrale de Notre-Dame, which dates from the 12th century. Fortunately the rain ended by the time I left the gite. It was a relatively short 13+ km walk, passing through the pilgrim-friendly town of Artiguelouve.
I am at the pilgrim gite at La Commanderie tonight with two others that started from their home in Pau. Buying food is a challenge, but there is a dépannage at the gite and the Maison des Vins de Jurançon sells small bottles of wine and a few other useful items. The wifi is weak and only available in the courtyard of the gite...

Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Lescar
The church in La Commande with discoidal funerary stèles. These were common in the Basque region from the 16th-18th centuries. There was once a pilgrim hospital here built between 1115 -18, preceding the church [Eglise St. Blaise] which was built around 1136-38. Once a simple rest-stop for pilgrims, it became an important commandery of the order of St. Christine of Somport, run by the Augustinian order, and a small town developed around it.
