Today's walk from Arrés to Artieda was at least 18,5 km but it felt like much, much more as Artieda is a hilltop town. I walked with the Italian delegation again, their guide, Carlos, plus the young Spaniard Alejandra, and Hiroko from Japan. The Italians must range in age from mid-sixties to 84, as Enrico, who speaks a bit of French, is that age. The terrain was fairly flat except for the end. There is a fantastic restaurant attached to the albergue in Artieda. The town itself, which has been around since at least the 10th century, is adorable and it is very restful here.
These huge piles of silt were quite unique. It looked like asphalt close up but was quite soft.
This painting, adoring the walls of a building in Artieda, is a protest against the Yesa Reservoir, which built in the 1960s served to flood a goodly amount arable land. It is the primary reason for the abandonment of the nearly town of Ruesta.
The little restaurant attached to our albergue had an amazing prix-fixe menu
